AAZ vbelt swap issues
« on: August 26, 2010, 10:11:39 am »
I am swapping my serp set up to a vbelt set up and I am having issues finding a pulley that will fit my water pump correctly.  The pulleys I have are either to big or aren't recessed enough to line up with my alternator and crank pulleys.

Any one done this conversion and have any tips on finding a pulley that works?

Most don't swap your direction, they go to the serp. I would think the single v belt crank pulley and the standard diesel water pump pulley should work. I wanted to use the two grove crank pulley with my v belts, but it didn't line up right and I used the single pulley. It worked fine. I have no part # for you though. I also put 2 washers on each bolt that holds the water pump pulley as nothing I tried would line up. It was always a 1/4" off. Good luck

yeah, i'm going that direction to avoid the infamous pulley wobble issues with the AAZ.  I ordered a pulley that may work, crossing my fingers...

The pulley wobble is one thing and could be fixed with a new pulley. Crank sprocket wobble is another and is death on those guys. The best fix for the AAZ is to upgrade to the TDI sprocket if you are going with A/C and serp. It is in the FAQ.

Yeah, I haven't seen the motor running yet so I don't know if there is wobble.  The motor has 70k on it and it has an ECO pump and those things suck.  So there's no way that the engine was stress very much.  It generally looks in good repair.  I'm hoping for no wobble in the crank sprocket when she's all fired up as that will cost me money.  Thanks for the info if there is wobble!
