Finally! no more leaks from the head coolant flange

I had installed a coolant flange (the one near #3 glow plug) which I bought either from Germanautoparts or Autohausaz a little more than a years ago and that thing always seeps coolant pass the o-ring. I've had that thing off so many times to replace the o-ring but it always seeped and I would run low on coolant. I finally bought a flange from the dealer ($29 genuine VW instead of $6 Meyle) with a new VW o-ring and the leak was finally STOPPED! I can't believe how much time and money was wasted on this stupid flange that simply DOES NOT WORK! The VW flange is made from a stronger plastic than the aftermarket junk, which IMO softens and flexes when it gets hot and leaks!
I am posting this as information to save others some grief.

glad you got it fixed, another nice little mod is to swap the side coolant flange from the later plastic ones to the earlier metal ones. My side flange leaked also because it was cracked and probably warped. Metal flange fixed that problem. Just as another FYI to save grief and money! (you find plenty of them in the junkyard)

I agree, i only use the metal ones. The plastic ones will always need replacing at some point. The metal ones with a good gasket / o-ring (depending on how early) will last forever and never leak!

Wait until the plastic coolant hose section starts to crack, The hoses assy's used to be one piece and then they started making these crappy assy's from three pieces of rubber hose with a plastic t assy
I chat with different shop's and it's the first thing that goes next to flanges..
it would be great if streettoys2000 would make a machined flange with multi outlet's

Another unsatisfied Meyle customer.
Their products are CRAP, as you've just discovered.
I steer clear of their junk whenever possible. Same thing for Sachs (their stuff has gone down the toilet). Unless you KNOW it's been made in Germany, I wouldn't buy it.
Febi/Bilstein is still bearable, but half their $hit is made in China too.

Was there ever a 2 sensor coolant head flange made out of metal?

I'd love to replace the flange with an aluminum one but I haven't yet found a 2 sensor flange that will fit.

If there wasn't one I drilled and tapped one for a temp gauge and it has went well. All you would need to know is what tap to buy.
