Hey guys
ive got a VW T4 1.9TD abl & the short of the storey is the actuator rod snapped when i went to give it a little tweek
so after drilling/tapping the turbo linkage & dieing the actuator rod its now boosting at silly levels,,should i fit a standard actuator or could fitting a new updated one help improve the van.
thanks
your wastegate is probably stuck closed. or your wastegate actuator is too tight.

no mate i know why its over boosting its due to me having to tap the turbo linkage out as the rod snapped clean off "No Threads Left" & now its shorter quite a bit shorter i just wondered if fitting a uprated actuator would be better
spoke to a turbo guy today & he talked me through some options on rebuilding the turbo/puuting a bigger wheel in to get EGT down & upping pressure with out upping the boost but it ain't cheap
Try just replacing the actuator.
I dont think you will get anything out of a boost controller with the rod being so short..
Also adding larger wheels almost always adds lag so unless your building a drag car stay small.
I've built MANY a turbo for these little engines and the smaller they are the better the run.. Sucks but it's true.
Had really good luck with adding a good sized front mount Intercooler though, combined with some added fuel and larger exhaust piping you can get amazing performance.

last i checked, to put in a bigger wheel, you need to have the cold side bored to accept the wheel, or have the appropriate cold side housing. and how does this upgrade make more pressure (boost) without it upping the boost? usually bigger wheels will flow more air, and make less boost. along with making quite a bit more lag.. bigger wheel takes longer to make it spin up to speed.

just saying what he told me mate the prices he wants theres noway,,this all started me asking him if i could fit a uprated actuator since mine as a broken/very short rod so while i was replacing it thought i"d see if there was a upgrade for it
Clearly you can weld so why not just weld a bolt onto the rod?

from the prices i was given today
thats exactly what iam going to do for a in house built uprated actuator £120 + VAT
