Dynamic timing and High EGTS
« on: May 30, 2010, 10:40:38 am »
Well when i got my new Giles pump i timed it to .85, as per giles instructions , and i can hardly do 65 mph and not keep it under 1000 degrees on the pyro.... so i called him and he said that maybe if i took some dynamic timing out of the pump it might help. so i shimmed it about a mm and no change on the highway. So im kinda at a loss of what to do.

Its a 1.6l turboed 155bar injectors

How much boost are you running??  Within limits, more boost = lower EGTs.

.85mm is crazy retarded, most people run 'em .95-1.05mm.

I'd for sure be advancing the static timing before messing with the dynamic stuff.
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

That was my first thought as well.

On a 1.6 I would time it to 0.90

Just retimed it 180 degrees from how it was. The egts were much lower and i got my injection knock back, as where before it sounded pretty smooth. My only problem is that now its got a little more grey smoke at idle. and its kinda gutless and it takes alot more to get it get it to build full boost. but i guess the next thing i should do is reverify all my timing marks and pump timing

I'm perdy sure grey smoke at idle is from retarded timing, I'd time it to where it runs the best.
