« on: May 20, 2010, 07:48:42 pm »
WTT
I have a set of 90mm cv axles for MKII jetta. I need a set of 100mm cv axles for the same jetta. The ones I have are good, just want a good set for even swap if possible. If not let me know what the deal would be. Thanks Lucas><>

Oh no, what all do I need to do this. I was thinking that all I needed were the flanges and new axles. Everything else upgrade later? Please tell me I am correct. I have a set of 100mm flanges I got for free:D

Depending on what day it was when they assembled your Jetta, the outer 100mm's might not fit in your stock spindles.  I've heard people say that they only put the smaller spindles on the 90mm cars and the larger ones on 100mm cars, but I've seen a few 90mm cars with the larger spindles.

At least with the larger spindles, you can more easily use the 16v front brakes.   ::)

I wish I could remember how to tell the difference without actually looking at both spindles....

I just got this email and I don't know what to think. I guess if all else fails I could either swap the inner cv on the axle I have or change back to the 90mm hub.
"""""I thought they were the same, so I checked ETKA, and it shows only one part number for the knuckle and the hub for the German built 86 Jetta. On the same diagram (the axles and knuckles are in the same drawing) it shows both 90mm axles and 100mm axles for the RD engine (same engine in my 86 GTI).

This tells me the one part number for the knuckle is for all versions of the 86 Jetta, including those equipped with the RD engine and 100mm axles.

With all that being said... I think they are the same, but I would verify from more sources before making a decision.... I know the 020 pretty well, but the various changes in the models I do not so get more opinions if you can.

I checked the part numbers against the 86 GTI and they're the same. I know for a fact some of them came with 100mm axles so I see no reason why your 86 Jetta with the exact same front parts as my 86 GTI, wouldn't accept 100mm axles""""

I just hope it works. Either way anyone have some cv's?

Worst case, could I buy a 100mm inner and swap the inner off my axle?

my rabbit has 100mm inners and 90mm outters. works great. you do not want to buy individual CV joints tho.. someone quoted me over 100 bucks for just the joint alone.

yeah, at least I have that option. I still need 100mm shafts though. Anyone want to come off some or even have some?

I have a set of axles from a Mk3 in very good condition, I can remove the joints and boots and ship them to you in a USPS flat rate box. Make me an offer if interested.

Sorry I missed that last post.

I got a CV shaft from rock auto for the drivers side bolted up. Apparently, MKII cars don't need the spindle changed. I am pretty sure the MKI does, but the difference on the MKII is not really seen much. I had both shafts out and side by side not much diifference at all.

All torqued up and still rolled around fine :D
