Got my snazzy new windage tray installed on the 1.6TD. At the end of the day I had to drop the oil pump to install it. I tried to take a shortcut and remove only the pickup tube. That was a no go... Ended up busting the extra brittle tabs off the plastic baffel attached to the pickup tube. Had to get a new one.

Torqued the bolts on the oil pump to 15 foot pounds.
Got the new windage baffel to install on the pickup tube,
Got the oil pan installed and filled with oil

For the life of me I can't recall if I twisted down the hex bolts on the pickup tube. I know I didn't torque them down to a spec. but did I tighten them up?
must have...
Otherwise the tube would have sat out a little bit.

maybe not, might have just given them enough pressure for the tube to sit flush....

Damn!

Good thing the windage tray gasket is reusable

Thinking I have to drop my fresh oil and the pan again just to make sure....

and with a clean pan to drain into you wont have to waste all your shinny new oil.

buy a clean oil catcher? cheaper than oil!

Must have been since the engine hasn't siezed up on me yet...

(Huh, I had actually forgotten about this...) I have since had it on some really rough roads, done an oil change (no bolts came dribbling out with the oil) and generally ran the snot out of it....

I have been getting all my parts from here: http://www.vmautohaus.com/
They are "local" to me. I just walk in to their store and buy the parts over the counter.

Problem with transplanting a vw diesel into a samurai is the simple fact everything is muddy/dusty. I would have dirt falling into that nice clean catch can in no time flat.
Then again, This last trip out did see me dust the motor quite badly to the point of making it run poorly. Took it a bit to work it all out but is now running quite nicely.
