Callaway Turbo
« on: April 13, 2010, 04:00:03 pm »
Did they make a turbo set up for the VW Diesel? I have one here that the guy said would bolt right up to a 1.6 diesel. Only one I'v heard of was for the VW gasser! Any thought on this. Looking to maybe sell it.

A gasser kit will bolt right up or damn near will it not? The exterior dimensions of the head are all the same.

Yup, the turbo itself is probably setup different but IFAIK it'll still bolt up.
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

Big problem is gassers spin a lot faster than diesels do - a gasser turbo sized for a 1.6L would most likely be set up to spool around 4K RPM worth of exhaust gasses.  By that point on a diesel you're already in to the governor.  Really you want something that's sized to be spooling by 2K RPM.

That intake manifold looks almost exactly like my 1.6 gasser one..........

When I get a free second I'll give callaway a call and give them the part # off the turbo and see what they can tell me.
