Here's a good one for you guys to solve:
-Stock Turbo'd '96 Golf w/AAZ (not intercooled).
-Basic tweak on the IP (smoke screw).
-Boost controller set to 17psi
-I accelerate onto a highway. I'm paying attention to traffic and getting ready to merge.
-Top of 2nd gear (~4800rpm) I hear a small bang and the car bogs, HARD. I get an eruption of black smoke behind me and I lose track of the cars that were following me onto the ramp.
-Fearing getting rear-ended and being in a not-so-pull-over-friendly spot, I keep going with the car still bogging, it clears it's throat and motors onto the highway.
-I get off at the next exit and assess the situation, I find:
-The line to the wastegate had blown off. So the wastegate probably slammed shut and the turbo boosted it's little heart out until it stalled the compressor, which meant I all of a sudden had no air, causing the black smoke and bog.
-The line blew off the boost gauge from the boost spike, not that it would have told me much as it only reads to 20psi.
-Put everything back together and she still runs like a top (luckily).
So the question is, how much boost do you think I managed before the compressor stalled?
