I don't think that would be bad, but I don't know...
I have heard that it is the thermocouple that makes the most difference in reacting to the heat in the engine. Sell an organ and buy the aircraft spruce:D

I want it to be good, but I don't want to give up a kidney for it.. you know? I am only 19 working minimum wage in retail.. jeeeez lol
I will most likely go with Aircraft Spruce.. as all others are up that price anyway, and spruce is a good name.
Now for installation, I think it should be able to drill with the manifold still on the engine.. and engine still in the car..
just gettin the tap in there would be the hard part i think, but doable. thoughts?

I know on my MKII it wasn't going to be easy as the engine mount is clost to being in the way. I think others on here have done it. I would try it and then if all else fails take it off and drill it. Go with the 1/8npt as it is plenty big enough and easier to get a tap up there.

IMO, pretty much anything named after a line of car, or having 'pro' or 'extreme' in the name is going to be crap....
stepper motor gauges require excellent wiring, esp grounding to work right.
Min is, but I am not sold on it being better. User definable warning light in the gauge is a nice feature.

Here's what I have:
http://www.jegs.com/i/VDO/918/310953/10002/-1?parentProductId=760360
Paid about $105, so far it's been really good EXCEPT, the thermocouple was absolutely worthless, if I floored it for 10 seconds it
might
get up to 1000F and after I let off it would keep climbing.
So I bought this:
http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/inpages/micro8egt.php
except back then it costed like $23.
It reacts real fast, it'll actually hesitate when shifting!!!! Just try to install it so it reads from as many cylinders as possible, I've never found a good way to do that on a NA with the separate runners and all......
I'd try to get a gauge without the sender (ebay) and then get the spruce one to save on cost and get a fast setup.

'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.
I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

Yep what ^ said
That is what I am trying to get you to do. Buy the good thermocouple and the "cheap" aircraft spruce gauge. No problems and accurate results. I don't think that the gauge is as important as the thermocouple. Just make sure that they are compatible.

I would be more worried about the probe melting off and ruining the turbo then anything

I have been seriously looking at this KOSO unit.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=110313250120&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&ih=001
has anybody heard of it? they seem legit units.. I figure for under $100 why not eh?

I think it looks good... From the pic I see it looks like you will have a fun time installing the probe that comes with it. Still it is 100.00 I am positive that I had less than 70 for the gauge and probe from aircraft spruce. Looks like the thermocouple is
10-01225 WESTACH EGT SENDER 712-2DWK $39.50
Then the guage was posted earlier. With shipping you still maybe under 100.
Check to make sure that is correct part for the gauge and order it

Lucas, these pages were not apparent to me earlier, whatever you linked me too last time got me to the same site and stuff, but different stuff
$39 for a 712-2DWK Westach sender, and $49 for the Westach 2C2 gauge. $88! sweeeet.
Whats the consensus on the drilling manifold while in the car from the bottom?
