specifications on cylinder bores.
« on: February 19, 2010, 11:50:19 am »
ok so i started measuring up the bare block ive had in my basement for about 2 years now, got it from my old work, at the volkwagen shop in alliston, its in good shape, i was told it was new, don know if it is but oh well lol i only payed 50 bucks for it becuase it was just sitting around. anyways i went and checked the cylinder bores, with the bore indicator, and i came up with "3.045 on all 4 cylinders. now that is all fine and dandy, but the bently spec, is "3.122 for standard bore 3.0220 for the 1st oversize, 3.0319 for the 2nd oversize and 3.0516, for the 3rd oversize, so clearly this is not new, what do you guys think should i get the 2nd oversize pistons. or get the block taken to the 3rd oversize??

what are you measuring it with? All the cylinders the same-top/middle /bottom? Something seems fishy-.002 wear? sure--.005 maybe but to be 1st over AND be worn .014? Thats an HUGE amount -I'd check again.

the cylinders have no taper to them, in fact i can see the crosshatching in the cylinder still so some one may have bpored it, but not exactly done a great job of it, im using a dial bore indicator to measure the bores.
