So i guess the moral of the story is: If you give a vw the beans it'll have a blowout in the back end.
So heres the update.
A $4 inner bearing (axle) seal that was defective let water into the bearing seizing it up. Within 2000kms of being installed this led to a catastrophic failure, with the added bonus of destroying the stub axle...... all luckily covered under warranty. Yay for warranties!!!!!!
