Is there a way not to have oil run down my sleeve when I loosen the oil filter?

I always make a mess with the filter. How are you guys handling taking this thing off?
Take it off from the top, that's what I do. It still makes a mess, but not all down your arm.
If i had the room for a remote housing ( oil filter ) I would go that direction..

Wait, are you asking about your TDI or the Corrado?
If its the TDI, then how are you getting oil down your sleave. They come out the top before the oil is drained from pan.
If its the Corrado, I stuff rags between the block and the filter to catch or soak up the oil.

i just leave the oil filter socket on the bottom of the filter, the oil flows between the filter and socket then drains out the bottom of the socket, into my drain pan. i dont get oily when i change my fluids.
Haha, definitely the Corrado. Rabbit, that sounds like a great idea. I have the strap kind of wrench now but may have to look into the socket type. And I'm sure rags would help. Thanks for the ideas! Hopefully I'll remember them come next oil change...

Me too. Also, before I install the new filter, I pre-fill it with oil to save wear and tear on the bearings during startup that first dry time.
