At the risk of sounding stupid (remember I'm brand new to diesels)...what does LDA stand for? Would anyone happen to have a supply company or part number for this in case I need it?

I have a extra late model pump for 200.00 if you need it, if not I will have three going to Giles

If I buy this engine and I see that I need one, I will definitely hit you up!

It's German. It's what visually makes a TD pump different from a NA pump. The UFO looking thing on the top... 0 460 494 182 is the best 1.6 TD pump number (I think)

I was editing and posting some pics for my build, so I snapped this one for you

this is the piece you are looking for the LDA/ufo/spaceship on top of the injection pump.
(it would also be great if your new pump also had a tag hanging off of it that said performance diesel injection with Giles' smiling face on it, but that may be hoping for too much

)
you could always take pictures of the engine and post them on here and get feedback before buying. We might be able to offer some guidance from our experiences and numerous mistakes. Just a thought.
cheers, and good luck

Thanks for the picture...that really helps! I do have pictures, 2 crappy ones, and that portion of the engine is just outside of the pictures. These are the pictures I get from the seller. I asked him if it had the LDA and he had NO clue what I was talking about.

So, do you guys suggest I get a new pump if this engine does not have the LDA? I may go look at it this weekend.

I also had someone tell em that ALL the AAZ's came with power steering, and the seller is telling me otherwise...who is correct? He said since it came off of an eco Jetta is doesn't come standard with power steering.

My AAz had power steering, that was the first thing I pulled off
New timing belt, TDI crank gear, waterpump, new 90 amp Alt,clutch to be safe..
I sent all the brackets out for powdercoating and I found a set of AAZ a/c brackets for the Future
I felt alone since i was the first for techtonic's tuning to build a AAZ KO3 downpipe 2'5
I sent them a K14 and manifold to make sure they had the correct pattern for that also
Iam presently having a tool ( mandrell) for the intake 90 duct in silicone, no one does it so i guess I will..
I was at 2200.00 with a CSD transmission 5 speed, my turbo was worn so I sent gpopshop a few cores and Iam waiting on a KO3 /Ko4 hybrid

Looks like that engine has a K03 on it.
MK3s or Passats never came without power steering on this side of the pond (no idea what Europe had) and AAZs only came in Mk3s and Passats. This is excluding Industrial, Marine etc engines.

Sounds like you are doing a lot of mods to yours! I'm just looking for a reliable diesel that will have some power...that if I wanted to add any mods to I could with some ease.

So is the K03 a good turbo?
And I guess I will have to discuss the lack of the power steering pump/accesories with the seller. He told me they didn't come with it, but he could have been misinformed when he bought it. So it seems as though it's missing the power steering, the alternator, and the LDA....is $800 still a good price?

Just put a new belt and waterpump, I can always find you a late ID pump core

The K03 is the smallest turbo. Good for instant boost but they are always working so they wear out faster. They don't like going much (if any) above stock boost levels

LDA= LOAD DEPENDENT ANEROID. It controls maximum fuel delivery based on boost pressure.
Wow I had no idea AAZs were that valuable in the US. I have a good complete AAZ sitting in my shed with 370k kms on it...I'm not telling where I live though!

THANK YOU!
Yea the AAZ's are hard to come by in the US. Even though Canada is a few hours from me (at least 9 by car) the cost of getting one across the border and back home would probably be more than $800. But if I could get it for under $800...especially with that high of miles I'd be willing to make a trip!
BTW, I see that you are from Ontario
