I replaced my old, tired N/A with a GTD and now I'm eyeing the old N/A girl over in the corner of the garage and i'm thinking she might need to be rebuilt, maybe have a turbo added.  I have been thinking about a turbodiesel motorcycle or something like that, at any rate, I need some experience with the internals.
     I'm not quite sure where to begin.  The engine has about 150,000 mile on her, but I don't think she was taken very good care of.  Compression was low in all cylinders and oil was leaking out everywhere. Still started and ran but I was afraid it wouldn't be reliable.   I was hoping someone could point me the right direction as to where to begin and what I might need to rebuild.  thanks.

Purchase a Bentley service manaul for your engine and give it a good read through. That'll cover pretty much all of the bases

I have a bentley and it rather assumes that i'm already a mechanic.  I was more specifically referring to whether or not anyone has a recommendation as to where a person could send a head out to be redone, or if a head and rings would probably be be good enough on a lower mile motor to freshen it up.

Low compression....you will need the engine bored over with new pistons and rings.  Get yourself a full gasket set and find a machine shop.  The heads are usually pretty good.  Might find some cracks between valves, don;t be overly worried. Buy all new bearings and new/rebuilt injectors and slap it all back together.

Seriously??? Get a second job or start asking for overtime. Seems like nothing comes cheap these days...even on these!!!!

i work in the medical field and can work seven days a week if i want.  this is for a second engine and some experience.  I don't need it to be back to brand new, just a refresh
