Bad head/headgasket?
« on: November 16, 2009, 09:29:34 am »
Hello, this is my first post here, I'm from sweden and have made myself a uniqe Golf mk1 diesel.

Here is a project thread about it: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=4638652

Engine is a 1,9 TD AAZ, the problem with it is that it's getting really hot under load, like when i do 60 mph or faster or push it hard.

The faster i drive, the hotter the car gets, but not as hot as it boils.

Radiator is flushed and thermostat is working (opens at 87 degrees celsius).

I my expansion tank i can see lot's of tiny bubbles. You can see for yourself here:

Bad headgasket vw TD?

Could it be a small crack in the head or a bad headgasket?

How fast does the tank pressurize after starting it cold?

Just looked at your build.... :o, quite the rig haha and them lights probly about push you backwards lol
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

How do you power 10kilowatts of light like that?
I've heard of large speakers (like a 1000+ watt sub system) killing a battery in minutes (with the car running...)
but you must have at least 1,000 watts of lights on there?!
Is this your left4dead, 28 days later, resident evil survival tank? :P

oh, in response to your actual post...
are you POSITIVE it's not boiling?
Steam doesn't transfer heat.

it's not boiling. Not even when i open the cap when its hot.

The lights forward is actually 1005 watts, everythins is 1445watts. No problem at all to power.

Double batteries (one on the roofrack) and a 120 amp alternator.

A few clips of the lights.
