17?!?!?!?
My worst was 20 with my old cracked head. No compression meant it drank a lot of fuel.
They way it is now with the aaz head, 2.5 inch straight exhaust - split to in front of rear tires, gov, lots of fuel, boost pin at MAX i was getting between 28-35 and i was driving it like i stole it.
I'm thinking to reach 17 i need a bigger pump head!!! and a lift pump...
both things that are currently on my agenda
looks like you almost got to 17mpg with the AAZ Ed..

Yeah you're right hahahah
Well its running a freaking ton of a lot better now. all broken in - fantastic mileage and i still drive it like i stole it most of the time.
except for highway driving. i have a great transmission for highway driving. just easy cruising. i think its the same as my TDI. about 2,100rpm or 2,200rpm at 100km/hr.
but i've been burning the tires off lately.
I can't calculate the mileage unfortunately because the speedo gear is lost in the transmission somewhere.

EXACTLY! i think fuelly lies. I enter accurately the amount of fuel i put (to the tens of liters and right on the price) in to the amount on the trip-o-meter. Some may be only $15 at a time, but I always go to halfway down the orange when I fuel again..
So there is no reason it should give false results.. I am entering everything to the T.

the worst milage I have ever got in my aaz was when I first picked it up (it was on 131,000km at the time). Worst I ever recorded was 6.7l/100km.
Now, if i really push it, I can get as bad as 5.9l/100km.... but not any worse. That was a recent tank full when I did a dyno run and a lot of "take it for a spin after a tune" type drives.
I necessarily do a lot of highway km's... thats likely why its always pretty good. But now, my average is around 5.2-5.5l/100km.

92 1.6 td jetta, giles aggro pump, t3, 27psi max, .75 fifth 3.67 final, straight pipe..... 5.8l/100km best (fully loaded with books from nelson to victoria avg. speed 130+) worst 8l/ 100km's with winter gas everywhere in third driving like a total prick!
93 audi 90q with 3 leaking fuel lines 60km/45L (yeah you read that right). After fuel lines fixed 11l/100km if ya take it real easy. way less if ya don't. Too poor to find out how bad it can be! That said whole car cost less than my giles pump. Giles pump was a better deal though!
86 f-250 6.9 na 12l/100km's everywhere all the time no matter what.

The worst i've ever got with idi, was the latest tank with my 80 quattro. 8,6l/100km. Lots of drifting on ice, crawling in snow, performance tests etc
This car is not for fuel economy, its just for fun. And fun it is

First post here:
I have had my 86 Jetta TD for about 7000 miles. The best was 45 mpg and the worst 37. Headed back up I hope.
The car has about 250000 mile on it and runs very nice. Have had it 95 mph once.
