You would also need to fit the complete shifter and cables from the TDI in to the car. The 02A shifter will not work with an 02J box. The drivers (left side, sitting in the car) engine mount is also different between the 02A and 02J, you would need to fabricate a mount. The backup light and speed sensor might also be different, I'm not sure of that.
It's a lot of work either way.

So the late ecodiesel box is cable shift/hydraulic clutch? Its not like that in the US.

A TDI O2A transmission is a direct swap then if its already cable shift. You can swap in a O2J also if you swap the shift tower on the transmission to O2A type or change to a MK4 shifter box/cables. The O2J mounts are not an issue in a MK2 chassis, the O2A trans mount will transfer right over. I have one in my coupe.

As far as I can tell its a O2A. I haven't been able to verify in EKTA yet though. We didn't get that particular code over here.

CYP is 02A from ´96-´97 Passat, Golf, Vento and Polo. 0,74 fifth gear and 3,15 ring and pinion.

soon to take the engine to rebuild and its a good time to replace the gearbox...
so, will i need the fly and clutch or the CHA gearbox is already fitted with the same clutch kit?

i'm pretty sure the trans your trying to put in is 28 spline. not sure if the CHA is 28 spline, but i think so, as the vr6 clutch can be swapped on the 1.9's.
so it 'should' be okay
