Hi,

I'm building up my 1Z M-tdi project, i've drained the oil and removed the cambelt. Looking at the oil pump pulley it has a little play in and out, do i need to swap the bearings?

Should i clean the shaft up like people do with the IDI's?

Where can i get the bearings, I know baxter was struggling a few years ago!

Thanks

Ryan

Hi,

They are totally impossible to get in the UK. I ended up getting mine from Techtonics http://www.techtonicstuning.com/showpart.asp?partnum=104.150

They are the same on all 4 cylinder engines with the intermediate shaft.

:)

does it sound like mine need replacing? should it have no movement at all?

What about machining it down like on an IDI? my pal has a lathe!

Cheers

According to VW if you need those bearings you have to buy a new block. However there are plenty available to the aftermarket.

Some brands are ready to go after the install and some must be reamed bigger.

I buggered a set on my first try (the ready to go type), after installing 'em the shaft wouldn't fit. The kind reamed that needs reamed would take care of that. ;)
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.
