So I made 15lbs of boost today on the way home with stock fueling :) the only mod was the plugged wastegate, But theres an awful lot of smoke off boost and idle and well all the time. Still fun though, and its obnoxiously loud. It will need a muffler. Got the temps up to 1100F and nothings blown up so far. So I am fairly confident in the car. But the oil and temp light keep flashing at me when I get going, and the cluster is buzzing like a mofo, I dont know if its really the engine yelling at me or the mk2 cluster not liking its home in the mk1.

Oh and I havent touched the pump yet... Hopefully I can meet up with Zagarus tomorrow and get this thing dialed in. And Im unsure of how dialed in this engine could be... The flywheels on wrong so theres no mark to find tdc....

Im so stoked to be driving this thing again!!!!!

Do I turn the fuel screw in or out to reduce fueling? Gotta make this thing less smokey!

Alright, all this smoke at idle and off boost is killing me. Really.....

Which of the oil light and temp light in the mk2 cluster buzz, and for what reason?

ive never had a boost leak so bad that it WOULDNT register boost. and i blew a hose 90% apart before too. there were 2 threads and about a half inch of rubber holding it together, but i still had a couple pounds of boost. i think i would start messing with timing first to get rid of all the smoke.

No it boosts now, Just had to put my foot into it to figure that out. Think I saw about 15lbsf

and it still smokes a ton? sounds like late timing to me. try advancing it half the width of a pencil line until you get rid of the smoke.

I believe away from the engine for retard, but make sure someone else verifies as I don't know for sure.

What oil filter did you use? I had buzzing with the fram that wasn't the 3569 model. Also is it a possibility that your water and oil lines have been mixed up? Just some things you might want to check.

alright, more questions....

The oil pressure? buzzer comes on when I rev it past 3000rpm. No clue what the hell is going on there cause it just stays on even after the engine calms down.

Also, lots of smoke, idling and through the rpm range. I have my boost gauge teed in to the boost aneroid line but its not reading any boost. Could this be a boost leak somewhere attributing to all the smoke?
You won't have any boost till there's a load on the engine and the turbo up to temp, I thought the same thing when I first started mine.

While you are cranking to get it full of fuel and to prime the injectors don't forget to floor the pedal.  It takes forever if it's just cranking at the idle position.

You can't crank at the idle position. When you are cranking you are at cranking fuel because the governor is not spinning fast enough to push the flyweights out. Holding your foot to the floor doesn't hurt though.
Are you saying that holding the pedal down during cranking doesn't actualy inject more fuel, I didn't know that but I know you have experience with pumps.  I guess then it's kind of useless like pumping the pedal on a new fuel injected car thinking it's squirting in more extra fuel like with a carbureator's accelerator pump used to do.

toward the engine to advance it, toward the rad to retard it.

I tried advancing the timing some, didnt seem like it helped. The engine is still very lazy in the low rpms....
