make sure its primed first by making sure that the pump is full of fuel. in most cases the pump will create enough suction from that alone to suck fuel from the tank. if that doesn't work, you'll need to pull vacuum on the return line.

Can you see fuel moving through the clear line when the engine is cranked? The stop solenoid is getting 12 volts and clicks, right?
Couldnt see any fuel moving, but the solenoid clicks.
Should I swap it out and see if it makes a difference?

While you are cranking to get it full of fuel and to prime the injectors don't forget to floor the pedal. It takes forever if it's just cranking at the idle position.

Got it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Small problems though.....
1. Bubbling at the base of the injectors. Just need tightening?
2. First gear is not there. Adjustment of the shifter?
3. Lotsa smoke!!!!!! Time to fiddle with stuff.

1.NO!
2.Hopefullu
3.start fiddling.
1. Did you replace the injectors? If so did you use new heat sheilds? Don't tighten the injectors as that is how I learned that they crack the head if tightend much over the 51 lbs. If you didn't replace the injectors then maybe it is the return lines and looks like it is comming from the base or when you were priming the lines and they were loose the diesel could just be laying there and boiling when the head got hot. What color is the smoke?

You can't crank at the idle position. When you are cranking you are at cranking fuel because the governor is not spinning fast enough to push the flyweights out. Holding your foot to the floor doesn't hurt though.

PINK= Idle
GREEN= Fuel
ORANGE= Wide open adjustment.

The above is correct unless your pump has a fast idle. Then your pink adjustment is on the back of the pump

alright, more questions....
The oil pressure? buzzer comes on when I rev it past 3000rpm. No clue what the hell is going on there cause it just stays on even after the engine calms down.
Also, lots of smoke, idling and through the rpm range. I have my boost gauge teed in to the boost aneroid line but its not reading any boost. Could this be a boost leak somewhere attributing to all the smoke?

first off congrats on getting it running!
Secondly, can you make a drive with it to kamloops? we can go over any other issues you may have if you can drive it.

Ya I've been driving it around today! And I've gotta put an exhaust on it as its just the downpipe at the moment. Ummmm I could come in tomorrow or wednesday if that works. Thanks tom.
Side note.... I lost the oil pan drain bolt today, but I caught it before I lost all the oil. Threw a new one in, 4 quarts of 15-40 and I was back on my way. This thing is not making boost. Or only a little. The turbo is spooling but theres no dramatic increase in power over the N/A.
I think it will make it to kamloops..... Might need a pair of earplugs though.

Don't' start fooling around with the fuel settings until you know exactly what the timing is set to and you know how to set it yourself. Timing, compression check, full throttle adjusted so it gets there and then play with the screws. If you start turning screws now you'll never know where you are, where you were or how to get back to where you thought you were, seriously.
