1.6 turbo build help
« on: June 22, 2009, 11:09:53 am »
I am helping a buddy of mine rebuild a 1.6 turbo off an '86 vw. I plan to either rebuild or replace the heads depending on what we find when we crack it. This is also going to have some mods done to improve air flow etc. I have been reading quite a bit and have some ideas. Does anyone have suggestions for either parts suppliers or machine shops here in B.C. lower mainland? I am thinking about heads unlimited in Surrey to machine the head if it is not too warped. Pistons may be reused if the cylinder wall clearance is good and there is no play on the ring lands. I plan to use Total seal rings in this case. Will it be necessary to use an intercooler on a K24/26 hybrid turbo? Anything else I may be missing, thanks.
