My car did not come with an owners manual so I bought a Bently. In the cooling system section, I found bolt torque values and thermostat opening temps values but the type of coolant was no wheres to be found. Maybe I missed it but what is the correct coolant for my 92 Eco Diesel?
Is the Bently the official VW factory service manual? I am pretty didappointed at my brand new shrink wrapped copy. It looks like a zeroxed copy of the original bounded together, photo images have no contrast, the current flow diagrams are on the verge of being illegible because the fonts are so small and not sharp enough so that I have trouble discerning the letter "a" to a letter "o" even with a magnefying glass.
I'm pretty sure all the 1990-1992 VWs used G11: the blue coolant. Maybe even earlier cars used it too. Not sure.
Yup, G11 is fine, and after a full flush G12/12+/12++ will work well too... they supersede G11, and may be easier to find these days than the original G11.
Most of the data on fluids (oil, coolant, etc) is in the first chapter "Maintenance". Yes, the Bentley is the official service manual, and if it looks like a zeroxed copy perhaps it is...what colour is the cover? Having said that, the pictures are generally "old-skool" contrast because they are reused across manuals and decades... you can look at the early Beetle manuals and find some pictures that still appear in the MK4 manual.
Will any phosphate & silicate free coolant do or are these engines so finicky that it must have VW coolant?
The cover is grey with the words "Service Manual" in red the rest in white.
you could use the prestone orange long life. just make sure to do a flush and get all the crap out. the vw stuff is fairly expensive.
