Increasing boost pressure

Ive seen plenty of articles on this site referring to increasing your turbo boost pressure in order to get better performance. The bit I dont get though is, how is this done? Im a novice to this but have a mechanical enough mind to be able to grasp the principal. Ive looked in the FAQs already and didnt find an answer. So lets say for arguments sake Im talking about a Golf Mk2 GTD. What do I do to increase the turbo boost?

What turbo do you have? Does it smoke at full boost? If it doesn't, you have to add fuel first. Dont block wastegate...

Well I'll be getting a Golf 2 GTD, so whatever turbo that has is what I will have. Im really just doing some research at the moment. I did have a GTD for a month but I had to get a refund for it. It did smoke at full boost. I've never altered the boost pressure on a turbo before and I just want to know how its done really.

By turning up the fuelling you also increase the boost and more boost = more fuel until it just becomes a smog storm behind you
obviously there are also more elaborate ways like bigger turbo and pre-spooling the turbo. Keeping the wastegate shut also increases boost, but can blow up your engine if you've not rebuilt it to withstand the extra boost, is this where you install the MBC (to control the amount of escaped boost and increase/decrease the boost to the engine)?
I understand you'll need to get a 1.9 metal head gasket (1.9 AAZ head too?) in there along with upgraded head bolts/studs.
Mine is not going to be modified until I can give it a good service and find someone to help me out and whose done this before (I'm more IT technical than mechanically technical and only recently got into modifying cars)

open the top of the pump via the 4 bolts/ screws, rotate the diaphram 180 degrees, seal it up again,
on the side of the pump near the solid fuel lines is a large screw, prise off any retaining clip/ band and wind it in a tad till you hear a change in revs, compensate for that change usung the 2 screws on the back of the pump near no1 glowplug
thats the basics for more fuel, but make notes of any adjustments so you can always re-set everything incase you change your mind

you should block the wastegate's air supply (cut the boost line to wastegate and put a valve there or just plug it up with something) and then increase the fueling with small increments until you get a slight haze, and then BAM you're done
be forewarned that you could damage your engine by doing this.

Most important thing of all is before you even think about turning screws is to get the EGT and boost gauges first.
