Positrac/Limited slip?

Hey, VW gurus, you know who you are, I'm tired of smoking one tire in my '81 caddy/turbocharged '86 Jetta drivetrain. Is there a transaxle I could look for that would get smoke from both tires?? Thanx-warren

Just to be clear, this only works on mk2 (1984 and up) transmissions, since as that is when VW added the "anti-torque steer" 20% LSD.  Shim kits are not available for mk1 transmissions, which don't have the 20% LSD.

Wrong.  I had that same kit in my 4k tranny in my Scirocco.  The "anti-torque steer" was actually just the brass rings that took the slack out of the differential carrier bearings to reduce rattle.  It had nothing to do with a limited-slip system.  VW started using those in all 5-speed transmissions, the 4-speeds did not have them.  Some very very early 5-speeds have been reported to not have them as well.

When you buy the kit, it supplies you with replacement brass rings to install, so you could even install this kit in a 4-speed transmission if so desired.  The Peloquin mini-kit works on all 020 transmissions up to the MK3 cars.

A little bit of real-world testing on this, it only increases the amount of torque between the wheels about 20-30 ft-lbs, so it's not much use on dry pavement.  My Scirocco had a hot 2.0 gasser engine and on dry pavement around turns, the inside wheel would still spin under heavy throttle.  The only time it was really useful was on loose/slippery roads.  Unfortunately there is no cheap easy replacement for a true limited slip differential.

I was always under the impression that it had to have had the shims to begin with, that's good to know that any 020 can use the kit.

could have been a bit less blunt, "that information is incorrect" sounds better than "WRONG"
