I was under the impression TDI pump head=no go on a IDI injection pump??I found a 11mm pump head...it was $900 for JUST the head!!! ended up with a IDI 11mm china pup head for $75..we will see f it lasts.....?
A broken plunger probably wouldn't hurt the engine, but might trash the insides of the pump or delivery valves/injectors.
Why do the automatics require larger heads?

It changes the torque curve I thinkIn regards to Chinese heads, we've used a couple at the shop. The last one being a 14mm in a cummins VE pump. You can clearly see that the Chinese heads are made of an inferior quality metal. It's a lot softer, and the machining is no where near as precise as Bosch. I can't comment on longevity from experience, but I speculate that they will wear out a lot faster. If you do plan on using Chinese parts, I'd recommend at least a 2 micron fuel filter, and ALWAYS using a high quality fuel lubricant like Stanadyne. Although, everyone should be using a lubricant anyways....I'd get a used Bosch head over a Chinese head any day, even if it was 3 times as expensive.
I always did have a feeling that the metal was a cheaper grade to start with would affect how long the part lasts just by itself before anything else is degraded but I never tried any of the stuff. In regards to the filter how many microns is the stock filter and would a 2 micron have the same affect on the engine as a restricted stock filter?
