Bringing back the scirocco thread!  Lets see some more info, it's been years!

Wow, that was a blast from the past.  :D

Well, the '84 is gone.  Here's what I got now:

And here is how it sits right now:

It will in fact be a M-TDI swap.  I have the engine, just waiting on funds.  My Wife's Golf is getting finished first.  :D

So tell us about your proposed swap.  Are you going with ecu or m-tdi?  Stock or hopped up?

So far, here's the lowdown:

ALH engine from '01 Jetta.
02J transmission, EGR code
-Hydro clutch converted to cable
Mounts are going to be built by Dan Bubb.
M-tdi

It will be hopped up quite a bit.  I'm not really going to disclose any of the unusual ideas I have just yet, (at least not until I know they work!!!) but for the basics, this will be done to the engine before assembly:
-ported head, swirl-ports removed, biggest valves they will take.
-super-special secret camshaft.   (not really.  It will be an OEM application that as far as I know, nobody has used yet, but I don't know piston/valve clearance details or if it will even work)
-valvesprings/ti retainers.
-Pistons will have dish enlarged, possible deeper valve reliefs cut, and of course Swaintech coated.  Stock bore right now.  Aiming for a 17:1 CR.
-Rods will be stock but peened, polished, and possibly cryo treated. (then crossing my fingers that they hold)
-Manifolds/turbo/injectors to be determined
-M-pump yet to be determined.  Having a hard enough time trying to figure out what will work and what doesn't.

It will also be built to run at least 50% biodiesel, maybe more.  I'm aiming for a higher RPM range than normal as well, I'd like to see a usable range up to a 6000 rpm redline maximum.  Tons of low-end torque is the last thing this car will really need, as a stock 8v gasser is already more than enough for the lightweight chassis.

I've been collecting parts for about two years now- but at my current rate, (unless money just happens to fall out of the sky) it looks like I won't be starting the build until next year.  Looks like there might be a few more Porsches coming in at the shop, and if we can turn them around quickly things might start sooner.  Gotta make the wife happy though so her car is getting finished before anything else.  ;)

I actually have an idea though, but I'm not letting that cat out of the bag until I'm closer to actually doing it.  I need to finalize calculations and whatnot, and then see if it's financially (and mechanically) possible.
