Recently finished up my pyrometer install.  I used an aircraft spruce thermocouple and wow, that thing is responsive.  Very impressed.  Used an ISSPRO gauge and lead wire.  It was pretty expensive but seems to be quite high quality.  Before the gauge was delivered, I figured the lead wires would just hook up to the back of the gauge.  I was surprised that the gauge uses a signal amplifier, which is contained in a separate plastic box about 2 inches square.  Are all pyrometers like this?  The amplifier fit nicely behind the driver's side knee panel, and I supplied it with switched power from an empty relay location.  For the gauge lighting I tapped into the instrument cluster lighting circuit so I can control the brightness of it along with the rest of the gauges.

As for temperatures, I've seen 1350F on hard acceleration and steep hills.  Would go higher if I didn't back off the throttle.  My only mod is a 1.6 boost pin turned about 1/2 way.  Those of you who have intercoolers, roughly how much did your EGTs drop after you installed it?  An intercooler may be in the future for me.  Any recommendations on a particular setup?

They do work fast don't they, I just put in one with an Autometer Sport Comp guage, they don't use the amplifier and are about $90.  I'm getting about the same readings on my just rebuilt all the way 1.6 T/D including turbo with the original {not rebuilt yet} T/D pump and 155 injectors with the timing at 1.0 m/m.  The pump leaks and makes it too hard to start but runs great otherwise.  I just got some fresh reuilt 155 bar injectors from Giles on here and put my N/A pump on {timing at 1.05 m/m} and my EGT's are about 300 or so lower on those same pulls.  Obviously it's not getting the same amount of fuel as the other pump with the LDA on it and I've only seen about 5-6 psi. boost so far on either of them but a great diffeence in power between the pumps though and this a perfect N/A pump which came off the other engine which got 52 mpg.  I need  to get the main shaft bushings for the T/D pump yet and put the new seals in it.  Never had one apart before but a lot of good information and pictures here to help and I have a couple other pumps to experiment on first to help learn.  You didn't say what the boost pressure was at those temps but if they are in the lower range like mine is so far I doubt an intercooler will really make a whole lot of difference but I haven't got to that stage myself yet, still trying to get a good stock baseline set and go from there.
But I am thinking about these temps as well and I haven't turned up or adjusted anything pump wise on either of the pumps other than timing experimenting.
