Recently finished up my pyrometer install. I used an aircraft spruce thermocouple and wow, that thing is responsive. Very impressed. Used an ISSPRO gauge and lead wire. It was pretty expensive but seems to be quite high quality. Before the gauge was delivered, I figured the lead wires would just hook up to the back of the gauge. I was surprised that the gauge uses a signal amplifier, which is contained in a separate plastic box about 2 inches square. Are all pyrometers like this? The amplifier fit nicely behind the driver's side knee panel, and I supplied it with switched power from an empty relay location. For the gauge lighting I tapped into the instrument cluster lighting circuit so I can control the brightness of it along with the rest of the gauges.
As for temperatures, I've seen 1350F on hard acceleration and steep hills. Would go higher if I didn't back off the throttle. My only mod is a 1.6 boost pin turned about 1/2 way. Those of you who have intercoolers, roughly how much did your EGTs drop after you installed it? An intercooler may be in the future for me. Any recommendations on a particular setup?
