New Turbo... Should I?

so... Yesterday went to a friends house, to a birthday party, and with the heat of the night (drinkn :lol: ), he gave me a mitsubishi td04h turbo, witch he told he took offfa 300zx...
My search on the web came to be a volvoŽs T5 2300 turbo...
iŽm going to replace my old drewling k24 on the mk2 gtd 1.6, should i use this one?
IMHO, its a very large turbo for good high end power, agree or not?

big turbos = turbo lag
make a compound set up

Sell your k24 for a k12 or k03 and have THAT turbo spool your big one

this turbo is equivalent to a gt24... or t3... big?
k26 is big, still people use it.
i dont have the time or tools to set a twin turbo stage im my daly drive car.
it would be nice thow... :twisted:

well if you really want to get rid of turbo lag, just give it MEGGGAAA fueling!! but beware the dark cloud of death it will produce :twisted:
some people say K24, and some say T3... i like cake!

I will second the cake comment as I too like cake!
K24 would do what you want. driving with a full k26 is a dog. Smokes up a storm and only the top end is usable.
For all over driveability a 24 or 14 would be best but hey, its your car man go for it if you want!

Doesn't compounding turbos cause an excessive amount of heat that very large intercoolers need to be used and may offset the drop in lag or increased boost that you might have picked up even if space permits to install one :?:

here where i live, smoke is normal in turbo diesel veicles... nasty ones :twisted: :twisted:
my MK4 tdi is a smoker, and my gtd is a smoker also, but we really do not care...
has we normaly say:
"No smoke No fun..."

It's when you stop at a stop sign or traffic like and get going again where you really see the lag.
And yes i do believe compound turbo's melt things.
Much like anything pushing that kind of pressure via exhaust

Much like anything pushing that kind of pressure via exhaust 
getting compounds to work properly is a bit of a pain.. reading through andy2's compound thread, there's a lot of little extra's that are needed. oil pressure for example. two turbo's = require more oil pressure. the space requirement is also pretty large... if you feed the smaller turbo into the larger turbo, you should be fine. having an external wastegate that is able to withstand the abuse might be a good idea also.
now i know some of you may want to shoot me for saying this again, but... the VNT turbo installation/fabrication would take far less time and money than running a compound setup, and would probably yield about the same results, or possibly better. (or worse if you set it up wrong)

Interesting turbo you've got there!
I agree JT, a proper VNT is obviously superior. but saying you have two turbos is so cool! The common layman doesn't know what a VNT is :roll:

this turbo looks pretty big... i'm not even sure if it will spool right... some people think that gasser turbo's will work perfectly on diesel engines... but gasser engines react totally different than diesels, and produce their maximum HP/TQ way up in the rpm range, so they don't need tons of air at low rpm, unlike a diesel which can handle tons of air at low rpm.
saying you have two turbos is so cool!

what is the A/R of the turbo??? it should be stamped on the compressor housing... that is the most important figure to tell whether or not this turbo will work good for you.
a K03 gasser turbo is not like a K03 diesel turbo :wink: but they are the same size.

well, after some scrapping, found some numbers on the compressor housing. 84... is this the AR?
is it too big? will it lag too much?
iŽm also intercooling the engine, on order to keep it fresh, will this bring me trouble? the turbo td04h with fmic?
