most of you guys probaly now what i did to my poor little deisel

. but i finally got her running strong. how ever i noticed at idel the oil pres was at 40psi is this normal? as well as there was some coolent in the oil. i did change the head guasket so i wasnt sure if this is what happens during the break in of the new guasket.

and for all of you guys in this site you have been an amazing help and appreciat it alot

Coolant in the oil will be bad if it continues. I'd change / flush the oil and be sure it was from assembly and not a leak.

is there a way to test for a leake in the saytem? like a color in the exaust or a pressure test?

40 psi should be good. Was that at idle or some speed ?

For coolant leaks into the oil, I only know of seeing the contaminate in the oil. If you are at operating temp, and don't see the leak for a while, the oil will become a milky constancy as they mix.

ya 40psi was at idel so that sounds good if ur givin the ok. i think im just more parinoied at what hasnt happened but could happen. but in regards to the coolent\oil ging on if i change it it should go away. but if it stays what should i look for\ change to get rid of the problem?

40 psi hot idle? that seems pretty high! not really a bad thing though...

If you keep getting coolant in the oil, a blown head gasket is the most common I've seen. A cracked head can do this too, but that usually happens when over heated, so you head could be warped too.

I would not get excited until you change the oil. How much coolant is in your oil ? A small amount is normal when you pull the head. Did you change the oil after you assembled it ?

ya but i didnt fully rain the coolent or oil when i disassembles i just let it drain out when loosened the head bolts off

Sounds like its from the head being pulled... dump & change the filter - I pour a donor quart of oil through as a rinse before replacing the drain plug. Use Mobil-1 and you'll see better mpg and starts.

it doesn't seem to be getting any worse. it was idling for a good 30 min and it stayed the same visual amount. i think im just paranoid after all its only my 1st build lol

oil floats on water (coolant/water will sink, correct?)
you can drive it for like a week then let it sit for an hour or two and undo the oil pan bolt just ever so much! and catch the first few drips and see if it's oil; or ... something else!

just my thoughts. they could be horribly scewed and dismally wrong but you won't damage anything by doing that, depending on how long you drive for before you check it again.

im planning on just cleaning all the oil out again tonight any way so well see what it looks like. the coolant holder has nothing but coolant in it. usually the oil would float to the top of that so im hoping its just coolant thats left from in the oil lines in the block from pulling the head lol

It depends on how much coolant you have and how long you run it at temp. Either way, it is bad news for your cam - your oil pickup at the bottom of the pan where the coolant will settle - not good for lubrication. Also, if its hot, the oil pump does a good job of homogenizing the mixture short term. Not a good lube.

If your burning the coolant which I dont't think you are It will be a white color and smells funny. I believe the water/coolant mix retards and cools down the injection and you get the unburnt white out the exhuast.

the coolant itself burns white(steam) and smells sweet.

my dads suburban blew a HG and it blew so much white smoke for a while that it would disappear when stopped at a light.
