So will those gear sets fit an 020?
as far as i know they will.
just how much work is involved to make it fit?

not much... it can actually be done while in the car. just follow the online instructions. the best way to get the gears out is not with a puller, but to actually heat them up. then they will just slide right off. i seem to recall that you can actually break something inside if you use a puller... maybe the gear itself???

If your asking about the gear sets on kermatdi and tdiparts... they are for a 02J in the a4 platform and will not fit a 020.
If you can squeeze taller tires on your car, you'll also drop your rpm...
How fast are you cruising at? Why not use a .71 out of a lot of old diesel 020's?
I don't have a tach, but the .71 in my rabbit is actually a little too tall for my taste.
FYI, early dodge omni 4sp's were vw transmissions with a tall r&p, I think.
i'm installing a CTN in my mk2 jetta. it has the tallest r&p available, but the 5th gear can still go lower

. i'll be bolting the clutch master cyl to the firewall and then putting a rod from the clutch pedal to it with the right angle. way cheaper than doing the cable conversion, plus i kinda like hydraulic
also going cable clutch will be cool! 2100 rpm is nearly 60 mph.
