when installing a new thermostat, which way does the arrow face?
my bentley manual is about 10 miles from me and i have no way to get it.
i am assuming facing up, but since its a vw...... it may go sideways lol.

i know which way it goes, lol, but there is an arrow that can be rotated 360 degrees around, i am assuming facing UP,

I wouldn't think it would matter. I've never seen a t-stat that was directional around ie 0 degrees or 90...t-stats are always the same all the way around.

i w9ill post a pic both old and new had one, i figured it wold only matter if it had an air bleed on it, but neither did.so idk. its in, and my rad is getting hot and circulating coolant now, so im happy.
