I just got my new 1600 T/D started today for the first time since I rebuilt it with a .020 rebore, new Top-Line mech. head&ARP studs and a rebuilt T/3 turbo I ordered from MJMturbos that has what they call the stage 1 upgrade on it, a bigger compressor wheel with the housing machined. I don't know actualy how much bigger it is but definately looks bigger than the old one just looking at it. I told him what I wanted to do, just something a little better than stock for daily driving and he said this would work fine for me. It has the same part number on the turbo as the old one and is identical to the old one otherwise.
The problem I have is that after I let the engine warm up a little when I just hold the throttle to about 2000 for about 5 seconds it takes a little bit to idle back down, if you just blip the throttle up to about that speed it idles right back. The pump wasn't touched other than I changed the shaft seal, cleaned the delivery valves and ran fuel through the pump before I put them back in and it is timed to exactly 1.00 m/m. It starts fine, doesn't smoke at all to amount to anything, is guiet and doesn't leak other than a small bit around the throttle lever which I'm hoping goes away, it was way worse yeaterday. I'm running the engine on a 50/50 diesel-ATF mix just to check it out with it on the hoist and a cooling system on it from spares I have. I haven't touched any fuel screws, governor settings or onything like that and even the idle speed was fine to begin with and didn't have to touch it. I would appreciate any thoughts some of you with some experience on pumps has before I start turning screws and changing springs without knowing what is what. The engine seems perfect other than the slow idle down and I'm tickled with it so far.
