Looking for square headlight grill to fit my 81 rabbit. Needs to have the surrounds and be the type that encompasses the turn signals.

I have a bunch of MKI 4dr rabbit gasser parts for sale that I'd be willing to trade you for. Items listed here: http://vwdiesel.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=17210

Mine is "on order," I'll check quality when I get it and let everyone know if it's worth it.

$40??? That's a damn fine price on a new grill. I remember selling them at swap meets for about $25. I can't even find good used ones these days. I've got a couple in tha stash (Caddy, GTI and regular MK1), but not enough.

Please let us  (those who buy them), know how they fit.

On a side note: I think it's becoming clear, that a MK1 market is starting to burgeon. I just spoke with a customer today in search of a MK1 hatch seal: $180 at the dealer!!!. Someone (one of us???) should try to get some of these hard-to-find parts manufactured for the masses. A couple of things that come to my mind:

Chrome Vent-shades (2-door and 4-door)
'Rabbit' emblem floormats with integrated/matching carpet striped
Chrome-trim window seals
GOOD (i.e. all-variety matching) door panels
GOOD carpet kits (i.e. look like factory)
Chrome wheel trim (1981 style)
Dashboards (for those of us who live in hot climates)
ASH TRAY CLIPS!!!!!
Ash trays!!!!!
etc.

You get the drift. I don' think the market is big enough yet. But maybe some dedicated Mk1 fanatic who just won Powerball????

did you find a box yet?

Let me know when you've got those pix, i'm really interested to see how well these will mount. I'm just praying they're not like the chinese side markers i got for my toyo pickup, those took some real MacGyvering to get on there

Even if they end up being cheapo's, $40 plus shipping isn't a bad price.

Heres some pics. I think it fits well and looks good. The grill lines are good and not all saggy.

And no the chrome door window shades are not for sale. :( .

GOT IT INSTALLED!!! kinda..

I only had 2 clips that I snaked from my 79 part out and they don't quite fit right, but the turn signals hold it in mostly and then the two clips hold the center for now. here's the pix!!!

now I just need an emblem and headlight surrounds - to finish the grill anyway. there's always more to be done...
