throttle cable issue
« on: November 16, 2008, 10:03:14 pm »
Well I was driving today and in the turn lane when I went to go and my pedal falls to the floor. I think crap the cable broke. Well it didn't it just unhooked from the pedal. Is there supposed to be something holding it on there better? It just seemed like it finally vibrated off or something. After trying to look at a pic on autohaus az it does just look to hook. Is that right?

I tried to search but got the opposite end on the cable in the search results

There's a rubber bushing that goes in there. THey tend to rot away after time (you might have seen some crumbled orange dust on the floor of the driver's side).

Here's the part number:

431 721 559

If you live in the US, you can order one from Carquest.

Otherwise, try the dealer.

That can be a surprise. I used to use that as my anti-theft device if I decided to let the car run when I went into the store;... reach down and unhook the cable.
Yeah, there is a rubber grommet that stuffs into the peddle hole. Cheap from the dealership.

VWCaddy has some info on his site, including possible upgrades to use, instead of the soft rubber.

Thanks guys! I was looking at autohaus and saw that small rubber bushing but didnt know where it went. I may try carquest or the dealer today. autohaus price is just shy of 5 bucks.

I like the vwcaddy bushing I just dont want to wait and dont want to pay $$ for fast shipping.
