Oil's come through the hose that leads from the turbo to the LDA. Not a lot, a few ml probably. Is that bad?
Hmm.
- Engine doesn't consume oil, and idle is even, so I thought rings etc were ok
- Turbo makes a slight whine when it spools up, can't hear it when driving - I thought that was normal
- Lots of smoke and oily crap, and a fair bit of steam seems to be circulating around the crankcase venting system.. I found this out when I broke the hockey puck thing on top of the engine and had to bodge it back together...
So my money's on the crankcase problem

Maybe I'll try replacing the hockey puck. What else could cause trouble with the crankcase vent? I thought it was just a hose that looped back to the rocker cover.
Has it been along time sense you have looked in there?
I've taken a few apart that had some oil in there but they hadn't been taken apart for YEARS so I attributed it to condensation. As in the oil vapor goes up that small tube to the LDA then condenses there.

It's function is to maintain positive pressure in the engine to help the seals seal, and to avoid dirt from being sucked into the engine.
It was the first ever time I'd looked in there, possibly the first time ever anyone'd opened it. The oil did look perhaps a shade lighter than the engine oil currently is, but that's hard to tell. I should probly check again in a few thousand miles...
Check it after 100 miles, if the turbo is bad you'll know soon.
they are oiled at the factory i think.I had one with oil in the fuel pins bore.Theres no air flow through there,just pressure.
