Author Topic: Replacing rear brake hoses (Read 3783 times)

Is there some trick to removing these hoses (at the rear axle) from the brackets on the frame? I don't know if I'm missing something or if it's just the 17 years of rust on the parts that are making them seem hard to get out. The brackets on the frame that they go through are actually bending without the hose ends coming out.

17 years of rust! if your replacing the rubber hoses just add some heat!
you will burn the rubber but oh well! your replacing them anyways! and the heat wont ruin the steel unless you add too much heat!
but if your steel lines look pretty bad i would just replace them also!

It helps to hold the 11mm fitting on the hard line. However because it's rusted on there, cut the rubber hose [it will burst when heated] get a torch or propane torch and heat the fitting until it gets red. once red soak it fast with cold water preferably a hose . it then should come loose

alternatively you can use rust check's freeze can to break rusted things free. you can find it at cdn tire
