FS 1979 Rabbit for parts--$200 or less, OBO

I have a 1979 Rabbit I'm parting out. It's a red 4-door gasser with the fuel injected 1.5L motor (K-Jet/CIS Bosch FI, really nice and runs good), and a busted 4-speed manual tranny. It was hit in the left front. The driver's front fender, the hood, the grille area/core support, and the front bumper are all messed up, but the radiator was not punctured and the car drives. Very little rust, being a PNW car. Email me at [email protected] for more information and parts costs/availability.

It goes without a headliner, stereo, steering rack, wheels/tires, door handles, windshield, and rear bumper, but beyond those and a few other little things everything is available, or the whole car complete. Need it gone by the beginning of August, I'll part it until someone drives the whole thing away and if no one does it goes to the boneyard. I'll install my old steering rack and a set of loaner wheels if you're local and want to drive it home (hopefully it's a short drive as the tranny only has first and reverse...). It was only totalled a month or two ago, has current tabs till Feb 2006 (so you can park it on the street and not get a ticket), and I believe I have the title.

What else? Pretty nice red interior, all there, dash has few cracks, quite good for an older VW, newer clutch, new struts, complete suspension and exhaust, etc, etc, email me if you need something in particular and I'll check it out. I'm flexible on price; if someone will take the whole thing away for $200 I'll be very very happy. Parts prices on a case-by-case basis.

Thanks!
George

***UPDATE***

I went and examined the car closely today, trying to figure out what the deal was with the transmission. It turns out it has a GOOD TRANSMISSION in it, a 4-speed. All that happened was that part of the linkage got bent in the accident, so that putting it in reverse actually puts it into first and vice versa, and all other gears are inaccessible. However the trans itself is just fine, and is up for sale.

Also, did some more poking around the interior. First of all, it has about 170,000 miles on it. Second, the cluster is in great shape, as is the steering wheel, passenger seat, and back seat, but the rear parcel tray is not too nice and was cut for speakers, the driver's seat has some seams that are coming apart (could be redone), and the dashboard does have a little more cracking and fading than I initially thought--still not bad for an older VW but not something you'd want to use for a restoration. It, like the rest of the interior, is red.

Let me know if you need anything or want to DRIVE the whole car away!

Alright TTT, I need this thing to go now. It is mostly stripped, here is what I still have:

--climate control box (did someone want it still?)
--rear bench seat, in great shape
--driver's seat, not in as great shape but OK
--alternator, works flawlessly, looks new recently
--one pair of small taillights, left and right, in good shape
--rear bumper, straight, looks fine
--body parts, the good ones are the right side doors and the rear hatch

THE ENGINE IS STILL THERE AND I HAVE LEFT IT COMPLETE SO IT STILL RUNS PERFECTLY!!! I need this thing gone, whoever will take it away for $100 gets an awesome-running engine and transmission attached to a car that will roll and move. Email me at [email protected]
