the answer is its not easy, you should just give up now and sell your samuri to me very cheap and then i will show you how hard it is. Just kidding, its pretty easy to do once you get the Pump built for it. unless set up to work on these pumps you should leave it to a shop so that you dont mess it up like I did. other than that it all bolts together,
the early TDI's are the easiest since they bolt up like an IDI with the engine brackets I believe the years are 96-99, mid 99 they changed over though to the block integrated water pump and thats when things can get a little tricky
but seriously if you have another samuria and are in the midwest region let me know as i am looking for one.
good luck,
jkeiffer

I live in B.C. and well if you want a samurai its not hard to find them up here. So just out of curiousity what block codes should I be looking for and just to ask the bolt patterns on everything from the 1.5 idi to the 1.9 tdi are the same are they not. Thanx again Jim Morrison

you have a cool name!
look for a TDI 1Z/AHU or do like jimfoo and take an AAZ, install TDI pistons, and a TDI head and off you go!

AAZ is a harder route in that it is not easy to find spare TDI valve covers or lines, but 1Z/AHU's were more scarce down in the states I think.

true.. i bought a 1Z longblock for $1200 that came from europe. it was in great shape. pistons still within spec, installed new goetze rings with total seal groove machined in with their sealing rings. all new bearings installed etc. the head got all new lifters, shaved smooth... i can't wait to get it running!!!! all the work to the motor cost me about $600-ish, including the rings, bearings, and work. the rings were quite costly due to the canadian dollar, and customs charges etc.
longblock did not have a pump or turbo though...

and those are big ticket items, especially on an mTDI (if you want it to run the way it was intended)

just to give you another option ,
i helped my brother with a suzuki comversion , and we used a 1.6 turbo out of a '88 jetta , and built that motor up .
long story short the 1.6 , hopped up , makes way more power than the stock suzuki running gear can handle , and he's rounding up the needed toyota parts to swap in next spring .

No I wasnt selling nozzles and as for the power of a M-TDI well I have all yota running gear thats why I was gonna go M-TDI I think the stock Zuki stuff is $#!# if you know what I mean so it sounds like an AHU or 1Z that I am looking for then with the pump what do I do just get Giles to do it or is there a DIY out there
