i'm pretty sure GTD came with either K14 or T2 water cooled centers
can somebody chime in and confirm that if i'm right or wrong?
odd that it make that noise but does make sence!

turbo sounding like a siren?  maybe you need to add a filter to your sound system.  all you should hear is a nice whistle.  

IMO if you don't like the sound of turbo's, you shouldn't diesel  8)  :lol: but a siren would be pretty annoying... (but they shouldn't sound like that!)

is that not  a t3?
I don't really know what differs a t3 and a k24 looking at that part of the turbo.
I was under the impression that mine was a t3 and it looks identical to yours in that picture

just going out on a limb here - but if you have reassembled the turbo and now its out of balance, it'll be vibrating a LOT and would tend to sound... well, like a siren.

i'd be cautious about running it for much longer unless your sure its all balanced up properly.

remember that the compressor wheel is a balanced component and needs to be oriented correctly on the shaft (with respect to the turbine wheel).

I have a T3 on my AAZ and it sounds very nice. It has a non-ball bearing. The ball-bearing turbo won't spool faster, nor will it give you any more power. It's just a different style of bearing....one that requires separate complex water cooling lines. Normally, only larger turbos have the ball bearings.

Ball bearings in a turbo are likely to be ceramic. As such, they are less forgiving than a sleeve. You have a magnet in your oil pan ? A good idea anyway, but really a good idea with the ball bearings.

The siren means something is not right - wheel put back on out of clock with its balanced position, blade rubbing the housing, etc. These would happen with ball bearings too.

I'm happy my turbo is floating on a cushion of oil rather than riding on glass.

Some guys run their turbo sans airfilter so they _can_ hear the siren ! :-D

Not sure about this but I have a few RHF4 IHI's .....I passed one along to my friend and he researched and assured me they are ball bearing type....I can't confirm this but maybe I'll pull a broken one apart and see (I have two destroyed ones for experimentation) ....

Ball bearing turbos WILL spool faster. Much faster.
Yes it is a different type of bearing, one that has a fraction of resistance compared to the sleeve/ oil cushion type we all run now.
BB doesn't necessarily mean you are going to have water.
I damn near bought a BB turbo a while back but I just wasn't ready to change my entire set up and the one I was looking at wasn't water cooled.

I'm sure just like any turbo if you have it water cooled as well it will last longer, heck is sure cant hurt.

BB would also allow us to run a larger turbo and still lite it up.
I will certainly agree with the wont give you more power comment however. One could argue that being able to spool a larger turbo would aid in the quest for more power..

Still comes down to "It takes Fuel to Spool".

The magnet is a good idea for sure.

But Ceramic isnt magnetic  :shock:

NoSurrenderAG, i think your turbo is just screwed up in some fasion or another.
My t3 is actually very quiet unless i take the whole exhaust off and stick my head out the window. Then i hear a fairly audiable, but not annoying,

The magnet is to collect small metal particles as the non-magnetic ceramic B.B. are less forgiving of such particles than a sleeve bearing.

Also, if you want to light it up from time to time, the exhaust turbine's materials are far more important than that of the bearing. - you want Inconel or similar Nickel - Chrome - Cobalt super alloy for real abuse :-D
