The magnet is to collect small metal particles as the non-magnetic ceramic B.B. are less forgiving of such particles than a sleeve bearing.

Also, if you want to light it up from time to time, the exhaust turbine's materials are far more important than that of the bearing. - you want Inconel or similar Nickel - Chrome - Cobalt super alloy for real abuse :-D

Probably very close - with a higher iron content as chrome and cobalt are really expensive, and cobalt was a strategic metal, last time I melted it.
