in the canadian climate you might also want to coat the bags with something like petroleum gelly to make sure it stays soft and doesn't dry out and crack. because that would totally ruin your day!
ahh JT you know thats the worst thing for rubber! any petroleum based product that is not designed for everyday contact!
anyways them guys run thier big rigs way up north on the ice roads and those bags are no different from any others! these small ones are from sleeper cabs! but if you wanna use lube on rubber like weather stripping or these air bags use a silicon synthetic lube it wont contaminate the rubber!!!

i thought the petroleum was good for rubber but VERY bad for latex

petroleum will make the rubber swell and then dry out faster then it will naturally! any petroleum based product will do that to rubber unless the rubber is especially designed for being in contact with it!
take for instant your radiator hoses when fuel leeks on them! what happens? swells up changes it's chemical properties! makes it week and then burst the next hot day ! i know take a peice of old radiator hose cut a 1 inch or 10cm if you know that way of measuring? measure it's diameter, length, thickness write those #'s down! then put that small piece of hose in a container of diesel fuel! let it sit for a while! then take it out and see how much it grown! even try another piece with petroleum jelly wiped on it and see what it does!
well i know this from experience! it was neat experiment though try it! it's fun!

actually my pump peed on my lower coolant hose (from the oil cooler) for about a week, and its still going strong! (about 2 years ago) i think it was only the old diesel that really swells things up with its aromatics. i always thought that petroleum jelly was pretty neutral and didn't react with anything. maybe some kind of tire shine/protectant product would create a 'shield'. maybe i could use some of that on my ball joint boot to keep it from cracking
Hey jtanguay, my 4 year old thinks that your little gif is pretty funny. Hard to explain to him that you can't kick old people in real life.
whats that interior out of?
