Is the timing too advanced?

How can one tell if the IP timing is too advanced? what ill effect occur with very advanced IP timing?
things to look for, notice, extremes, and so on

First thing you will notice is it sounds like someone threw a couple handful's of marbles into the engine (LOUD).

It can raise cyl pressures to dangerous levels causing blown head gaskets etc.

You will see white smoke if it's advanced to far as well.

On the other side, it starts easier and the EGT's will be lower. More top end power...

Just have to fine the break even point for your car and your type of driving.

Also, it may be hard to start if it is too far advanced. Hesitant starting.

And sometimes those marbles will be just barely audible. Listen carefully. If you here them at all you are too far advanced.

That's exactly what it sounds like. - tons of rattling stones or something. hesistant starting and i seem to go through HG's pretty quick
Sure picks up FAST right at the end of the top of the rpm range though (60km/h in 2nd gear)
