Finally building up my 1.9 na that used to be an ADG industrial motor which is going into my transporter. It came with the windage tray which has the oil pan gasket molded to it, so of course it's now scrap since i removed the pan. I wouldn't think it would do much good since the motor will be tilted so far over. I was going to replace the gasket with a regular one [the nice rubber molded one]. Any suggestions , opinions, hate mail on this ?
i'd keep it. the gasket is rubber and re-useable. it really helps oil from whipping up and foaming and can even give 1-2 hp at high rpm
Well in a way the question is moot because i ordered another one and since i wanted oem quality they sent me the same thing. I only ask because believe it or not, on some motors it's a no-no.
I always fit them on mine and it does help to keep the oil where it sould be but on the track my bus will still lose oil pressure on long fast right hand bends always vent the oil into a catch tank to avoid it getting into the intake.on some bellhousings you have to open up the bottom hole as the rubber gasket is a little thicker and moves the sump.
on the t3 the alloy sump bolts to the bellhousing but not all need to be modified some bolt straight on but on a few ive had to open up the hole right at the bottem. This is on a t3 and not a eurovan t4
on some motors it's a no-no.

Crap. Oh well if i have to i will try to oval the bell housing. I really don't want to strip to threads of my pan.
its just the 1 bolt hole and its normally only 1/2mm that needs to be taken out as the rubber gasket is thicker that the old style and moves to sump.but as i said some bolt straight on others need to be opened up
