CCV mod

quick question... while browsing through princess auto i found an inline 'filter' that filters out oil & water... now it's not very big and says that it does reduce pressure, but would this not be a good idea to use? i would imagine that a little pressure decrease would be okay, but too much would cause some issues.

anyone else have any input?  i'm looking to get this done on my TDI, and keep the EGR the way it is (for now...) but not have the intake system get all oiled up.

I'd like to find a better solution for the CCV system on the TDI engines as well. I had a Old Navy CCV for a while, but it was the single outlet/ALH style unit and I really should have the double unit for the 1z/AHU style block.  There was one made, but it doesn't exist any longer from what I can tell.  
Anything has to be better than the stock, piece of junk elephant hose and I do not prefer to vent to the atmosphere. And NO Total Seals are not the answer .

I'm not sure about what you are suggesting. I would be careful of anything that would reduce pressure and thus increase it on the crankcase side of the motor. I suppose it depends on "how much" pressure. Also, looking at the motor itself. Where should we be concerned about more pressure coming from? Def. the block.  However, I can tell you that I am starting with a old NA 1.6 crank block/CCV vent that bolts where the elephant hose lower tube does and I'm working from there to figure out what to replace the stock CCV puck with.  Ideas would be great. We've bounced this around before I think too.

Racor & Mann CCV Filters

Well, I'm actually working on a variation of the KCTDI mod found on TDICLUB for the 1z/AHU engine. The main difference being the fact that the KC mod is for use on the ALH motor which doesn't have the old style "crankcase" vent as well as the puck up north on the block.
It is simple, functional and can be hidden quite easily. It also retains the stock routing system for the most part and doesn't require any venting to the atmosphere...and its far cheaper than the Provent and other options out there.

Essentially, I'm installing this weekend and will provide pics but I'll be elminating the stock 1z/AHU elephant hose. For the crankcase vent, I'll be using an older 1.6 NA crankcase block vent that I have which will replace the elephant hose simply, the one i have has a outlet on the plate itself. Of course, one could always be added to a stock blockoff plate as well.
From there, route reinforced clear hose to the stock puck CCV inlet and then the outlet will be vented to a Agricultural filter with the additional of a stainless scrubber inside. I may add a drain to the bottom of the filter setup. From there of course, the outlet of the Ag filter would be routed to the stock intake tube location.

Here is the variation of the KCTDI mod I'm using right now. Currently installing on the motor. I have to take more pics.

I'm using reinforced high pressure hose
An Agricultural filter
Stainless steel scrubbing pad
a crankcase vent plate (from 1.6 NA engine)
various connections.

In doing so, I'll have an efficient CCV system that is not venting to the atmosphere but is keeping anything in the intake tract nice and clear!

i need to do something with mine it leaks oil at the valve cover and out the puck!

One of the old IDI NA blocks I had used that crankcase vent. Many just have a block off plate. I remember seeing a Autobahn crankcase vent accessory kit on the vortex for diesels not to long ago. Apparently my engine might have had this and I've found them on earlier NA blocks as well (with the diaphrapm vac pumps). I've seen a few....should see if I have a few more.

Wouldn't be hard to add a fitting to a block off plate either.

yes sir.... and should work VERY well considering....

Why spend a couple hundred when you can have functional and good ok looks for under 30.00?
