No damn horn!

I haven't even looked at the fuse panel yet.
After my rering my horns don't work.
Silly me, I didn't know the horns were hooked up to the rings :?
Anyway, is there a relay for these baby's?
I'm going to have to start crawling around under there but would like a good starting place.
Neither one of the 2 are working which leads me to a fuse or relay problem.
Suggestions before I dig in?

check fuse first
if its not that then check the wiring out of the horn connector... ie: loose connector or bad wire, or the contacts on the horn button themself corroded?
i agree i dont think its the horns themselves because both stopped working same time. you can test by putting 12v to them.

There is a relay.
How do you know both stopped working at the same time? You might have only had 1 working and jsut assumed both were.

On my Rabbit GTI, the horn doesn't work,... but I can hear the relay click.
Doesn't let the jerk cutting my off know I'm there,...
but checking the relay is about that easy.

It's easy to tell when one vs two are working. Completely different sound.
They were both working up until I tore the engine apart. There is a connection over by the batt I think, maybe I had better check that out.
I'll get under it Saturday to get it figured out. Hope it's something easy easy..

I'm def, seriously def..
I can't hear crap, have to take my 14 yr old son for a ride when I think I'm hearing something "funny"

I have hearing devices but they only help a little.
I may be able to hear it if the car was off and my head was under the dash while the button was pushed.

I bet your son is going to grow up and build some pretty sweet cars with all the training you are giving him.
It has to be frustrating at times though.

I guess I've never had both horns working at the same time

Well here is what I have discovered thus far.
The horns are plugged in as required.
The relay seems to be clicking (my def ear can hear something).
Still no horn. I cant seem to find a blown fuse though.
Next step is to run a hot wire to the horns to make sure they are still working then I guess I'll go from there.

If hearing is a problem, use a test light (works best around dusk) and check various points in the circuit to determine where you lose power. One other thing to check is the ground. I'm not sure on VW's, but on North American cars they ground through the horn mount, and I have had similar issues several times where rust causes enough resistance that the horn no longer works.

Funny, I'm in the same boat with respect to the horns, all is in check but no horns, 12v applied and they work, no relay click though, is it a relay in the fuse panel?

Have to yell and wave a finger right now.

There was twice this morning I need my damn horn...
Finger isn't loud enough.
One guy has burnt retinas though, shouldn't have pulled out in front of me.
