I swapped the trans in my car from an AGS 3.89 r&p to a CHE 3.67 r&p. I knew the speedo was off due to the swap and i have taller tires on it. I got pulled over in Indiana going 68 in a 55. My speedo is off at least 10mph. I installed the red speedo gear and its helped but its still 5 mph off. I used the girl friends GPS to check speed. I know those aren't 100% accurate but it has to be close.
To make this short i need to prove to the judge that my cars speedo was inaccurate and that i have "fixed it" with the gear to eliminate getting the citation on my record. I go wednesdya evening. Any ideas?

call AAA and see if they have a speed check trailer near ? i've seen them do actual test in thier parking lots for speedometers!
or ask the distric attorney for a different plea and tell them you balieve your equipment is defective!
good luck been there done that!

If you got a speeding ticket
in a 1986 VW Diesel, I think
you should frame it, hang
it on your garage wall and point
proudly to it when your friends
drop by to scoff at your car

Speeding over here and then claiming defective equipment, might escalate the problem. Like unauthorised 'mods' invalidating your insurance
Good luck...

I don't think they will get that picky. I will state that the tires are larger than factory causing the speedo to read slower. Also the ring and pinion in the trans is taller than the trans that originally came in my car from the factory. All while acting like this is how i purchased the vehicle. Either way i have to pay them court cost.

Being as honest as possible reduces the possibility of perjuring yourself. You changed out the transmission, this changed the speedometer. You believed you had that fixed (gear swap), but didn't take into account the tires and will get this remedied.

You have a point there. I'll probably be mostly honest. I mean it was reading slow. I didn't notice it till i looked at the speedo cause i saw the cop behind me.

I had the same thing happen in Michigan a number of years back.
I took it to a garage and had a certified mechanic I did not know write up a repair estimate and stated the speedo was off at least 16 mpg.
The Judge did not care. - I was guilty.
Years later, when my record was clean again I got several speeding tickets. I talked to the officer before the hearing and told him I had a clean record and would like to plead guilty to "Impeeding traffic" - same court costs, but no points.
That worked both times, but the cop or DA has to agree. The DA never agreed but the cop did so they were both cleared of points.
Also, in Michigan, unless it is a JUDGE, not a magistrate or reff, you can NOT pleed guilty with explanation and hope he will dismiss the points. Only a Judge can. So, unless the cop / DA agrees first, pleed NOT guilty and show that you had defective equipment.
good luck.
