Glow plug relay question
« on: August 25, 2008, 07:47:36 pm »
What are the symptoms of a faulty glow plug relay?  When my engine is warm the glow plug light will come on and something under the dash starts buzzing...then the coolant temperature starts climbing.  The light and humming will stay on for long periods of time (30 - 45 minutes).  I removed the relay to see what it will do tomorrow.  Anybody experience this before?  Your help is appreciated.

Glow plug relay question

I went to start my car this morning and it didn't start.  So I broke open my Bentley manual and went through the glow plug relay diagnostic sequence.  I immediately determined that the glow plug fuse on the firewall had blown.  This was preventing the glow plugs from heating but what caused it to blow?  So I continued with the diagnostic and found that there was no voltage between contacts 85 and 50 when the engine was cranking.  The Bentley says that there is a break in the wire that leads to the 50 terminal.  My guess is that this issue was the cause for the glow plugs coming on while driving and causing the relay to buzz.  So I've got to fix it.  The question is, where does this wire lead too?  I've followed the wire in the manual.  It terminates on wire 15.  Where does wire 15 go?  The manual isn't good about wire terminations.  Can anyone help?

do a contnuity test on your glo plugs to see if there all ok not burnt out. this can happen if the fuse blew. secondly you could of had the relay stay on to long and that blew the fuse. thirdly you could have a short.
