electrical problem, maybe
« on: August 24, 2008, 08:44:09 pm »
I am running into a problem.  I replaced the temp sensors for the glow plugs and the temp gauge.  Now the glow plugs are working right, but the gauge in the car is maxing out while I am driving.  The cooling fan is not running at this time, but the fan is working properly.

The engine does not seem overly hot and the coolant is not leaking out.

All fluids are at the proper level.

I am wondering if it might be an electrical problem as I am also having problems with the glow plug light.  It works sometimes.

I have a 91 Jetta with the non-turbo engine.

i'd say VAG is pretty good... VOA is pretty garbage because its built in mexico with crap grade wires.  they corrode right in the sheathing and turn to green dust!  pretty much all mk3's we have here were built in mexico...

my '92 doesn't have any electrical problems other than the fact the rad fan went and i had to fix someone else's wiring... (the p/o must have thought the wires were bad when it was in fact the fan itself  )

that must be scary watching the dial max out....
thankfully the wireing on these mechanical oil burners is very minimal.
change all the wireing while you're at it? i dunno, maybe ignore me..., i HATE wireing with a passion

Would I see the same problem if the temp sensor is for the wrong car?

personally i'd like everything to go wireless... or just shoot everything through one optical cable & have a little board to process the info... so much bandwidth!!!

i think chrysler has gone wireless... it is far superior AND they save on copper   BUT it leaves area for interference etc...
