1.6td jetta build thread
« on: August 14, 2008, 07:07:11 am »
Heres the start of my build thread.
I bought the car in Quebec for 750, came with 4 winter tires.

Heres the parts I am planning on changing up...
-Fuel pump (Gilesified)
-Turbo (a used turbo, hopefully in good condition)
-Injectors
-Glow plugs
-Timing belt/tensioner
-Head Gasket (metal)
-Head Studs
-Cylinder head gaskets
-Starter
-Alternator
-Battery (hopefully relocate to trunk for more room for future intercooler)
-Waterpump
-P/S pump
-motor mount and tranny mounts
-tie rods (full)
-axles (full)
-front grill, to badge less dual rounds
-Japanese style door handles
-front cross drilled and calipers/flex lines etc.

Future installs
-big downpipe to straight back exhaust 2.5
-intercooler

Thats all I can think of right now... i'm gonna post some pictures of how the car looks now, and my progress... right now I'm waiting to get the turbo, injectors, waterpump, axles and the pump to Giles, as well as the metal headgasket, I have everything else.
I'm picking up the studs today.

I didn't know how much patience you need for this.

Looking good man :D

Where did you get your studs from and what did you end up paying?

I'm still interested in your motor

I'll basically be taking the front end off the Golf and bolting it up to the jetta...going to use as much as I can... it has a new starter, alternator, p/s pump, battery, sub frame, suspension, grille...etc.

Cool... yeah the block and the head are yours...its just too bad I can't get them out before I get the pump out to you, would cut the pump price by a third....

I'm coming into Pickering either friday or saturday...I know friday would work better for you, can we meet up somewhere so I can give you the pump?? I work till 330, so would be at the Nuclear plant around 430 5oclock...

I got the studs from a company here in peterborough, I have a tax exemption card, so i ended up paying 140 total.

:D  I called around today, will be picking up the head Studs after work in an hour, the total on those is 157.50 or something like that, what have others paid?

Tomorow I'm picking up a used turbo because i'm too cheap to rebuild the one I have. At the same time i'll be dropping off my pump to Giles.

   I'm getting impatient...

for the turbo just check the axial play.  you can have quite a bit when its cold.. theres a certain point where the 'looseness' is a good thing (less resistance) its somewhere between nice and tight, and the wheel blades rubbing the housing (not good!!)

Ran into a bit of a snag in the front end...

So heres what the brake lines are supposed to look like...nice and neat..right?

When I got the car, the guy told me he put lots of money into the brakes, ... of course a quick look and we can see it wasn't all lies...

following the lines out, something just doesn't look right....

And then found this.....

I have to say... i'm quite speechless. An untrained monkey could have done a better job.... :x  :x

You can't really tell, but the retaining nut was all chewed up from vice grips....

F!@#in' hacks... I wish they didn't exist.

I'm still estimating the car to be on the road mid September though...
